History of The Cylinder Doctors

The history of The Cylinder Doctors came about from a chance conversation. A keen golfer, mentioned to Michael the state of some of the grass recently on the golf courses that he had played and wondered why it had got so bad?

This posed Michael a challenge. As the question rattled around in his brain he needed to find an answer. Further discussions with Donald and his links with several green keepers came up with the answer that although Relief grinding was the preferred option by many Head Green Keepers, all too often because of cost Spin grinding was employed.

Unfortunately, as many appreciated with spin grinding, the grass does not receive the same clean cut as relief grinding, but just could not afford the prices to have all their machinery maintained in this way.

The next challenge was then to provide a quality service for relief grinding at a fraction of the existing prices and, which challenged the prices of the now normal spin grinding. We achieved this by way of careful investment into the right machines, in the right location, hard work and without all the frills associated with big head offices.

Research also showed that with relief grinding the benefits far outweighed spin grinding and that the additional costs for our service is paid back with less maintenance, higher fuel efficiency, cleaner cut and best of all your client “the golfer” with their comment of how well the course is being kept.
